AKEL and BKP express their deep concern regarding the ongoing crucial developments in Cyprus and call the people of Cyprus in a joint struggle for overcoming the deadlock and moving forward for achieving our main vision for peace, freedom and reunification through a comprehensive solution of the Cyprus problem.
The two Parties recall that whenever Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriots were enticed by nationalism, supporting the interests of foreign countries and not the interests of Cyprus and its people, the result was catastrophic for the people and the two communities. In this framework, we call the two communities to intensify the bicommunal dialogue and contacts and send out the message of the common struggle and coexistence. This is a patriotic stance especially in this framework.
The two Parties also:
- Call upon Turkey to withdraw the NAVTEX and its ships so that the negotiations restart immediately.
- Believe that the convergences between Christofias-Talat and between Christofias-Eroglu on the maritime zones, natural resources and allocation of federal revenues must be the framework in which this issue must be resolved. The convergences as a whole should be the basis for the continuation of the negotiations from where they left-off.
- Repeat that the continuing division of Cyprus is unacceptable for both communities. The ongoing status quo threatens the prosperity, peace and existence of both Turkish-Cypriots and Greek-Cypriots.
- Reaffirm their readiness to work for the reconstruction of trust and mutual understanding between the two communities by promoting bicommunal dialogue and contacts in several levels.
The two Parties will continue their dialogue and cooperation for the interests of the people of Cyprus, Greek-Cypriots and Turkish-Cypriots.
